Thanksgiving subs

People keep asking us what we're doing for Thanksgiving. In between, I keep forgetting it's Thanksgiving. The calendar says November, but the weather here is still pure August: mid-90s during the day, sunny, and humid.

I had to work this afternoon anyway, so I went to spinning class at the gym, and then Chad and I got subs in the mall food court. Mine was a meatball sub. I was foolishly thinking Italian meatballs drenched in tomato sauce, but what I got was something like Swedish meatballs with a sprinkling of pickled carrots and fresh cilantro. It was actually quite tasty, so I had no complaints.

And it came with that traditional Thanksgiving side, chopped fresh chilis.

Cathy and I were just remembering our first Thanksgiving dinner together in Peru......KFC!!!

I thought about KFC! It's about as American as we could get!

Speaking of which, they must be making way more in their international locations now than they are at home. They do pretty well here but apparently they're wildly popular in China.

It is a strange phenomenon. People in Peru save money in order to go to KFC, Burger King and Pizza Hut....The first time I came to the US it was quite a cultural shock. :)

Speaking of international food chains, I seem to remember a funny story about an "Outback" steak restaurant in Lima being shut down, and later reopened with some crazy new name??

Backcow! My favorite restaurant name ever!

That's right. It was renamed after they lost the franchise when an american wrestler choked with a piece of cow.

"backcow" - it's just brilliant.

almost sounds like it could be a short story...
