The league of large bules

I find gyms boring, and despite my best (well, semi-best) efforts to stay in shape, I've been increasingly engulfed by a sense of flabbiness. Figuring I needed a team sport for inspiration, I went out for Touch Rugby on Sunday.

I got a little nervous when I looked around and saw a lot of strapping Australians who looked like they'd grown up teething on rubgy balls. But everybody was perfectly friendly so I went out and did my best to figure out what was going on.

I had a blast despite being offsides about 97 percent of the time. There were constant shouts of "Come back five, Trish!" and "stay on the line, Trish!" and, most mystifyingly, "Dummy half!" Certain things surprised me, such as the fact that you seem to spend as much time running backwards as forwards, and that just putting the ball down on the ground is trickier than you'd think. But I started getting the hang of it, and best of all I ran so much I could barely hobble around the next day. That's hard to do on a treadmill in front of yet another CSI rerun.

Frisbee is a bit of fun...

The bules don't tend to be quite as large, and there are a few more ladies around from the look of your photo.

It's really close to your place too...

Ya, the thing that worries me a little about frisbee is so much running. When I played in college, we just charged from one end of the field to the other the whole time, which was hard for me even then. Also, I never got the hang of all those different ways to throw a frisbee!

pfft... There are only two main ways. I'll teach you.

You'd be very welcome on Sunday at 2pm...

Thanks! I'm a little dubious for Sunday because I'm trying to finish a story for the Post before heading to Yogya, plus it's Film Fest week. And next Sunday we'll be gone. But maybe I can manage to make one frisbee game before you go ....
