D'silliness

Frenchified names are definitely in vogue these days. If you want, you can go get a banana and chocolate crepe at the D'Crepes stand at any mall, and then buy the latest CD from Maliq n D'Essentials, followed by a beer at D'Place on Wahid Hasyim street (a stone's throw from two Oh La La cafes).

My favorite, though, is La' Dunky salon, right around the corner from our apartment. I got a really great $2 haircut there once. Unfortunately, they've cut my hair three times ...

That blue awning is not actually the salon, by the way; it's a warung and motorcycle taxi stand. La' Dunky itself is quite presentable.

As Chad might say, it's all très Fake French.

hey, you need a combination french/simpsons show themed restaurant: "D'Oh La La!"

I was once talking to an Indonesian guy about how much I hate the bland 80s fusion style jazz that is so popular there. Y'know smooth jazz and all that.

Later on he admitted to me that he was in a jazz band called D'Mezzo...

Sigh...

D'Oh La La -- I like it! Come on over here and let's launch it!

Actually, one of the first things we did on Indonesian soil was watch The Simpsons. I think it was at about 3 a.m. local time, on the hotel TV, and we were jet-lagged. There must be some cosmic connection there.

John, are you sure D'Mezzo is a band? I could swear there's a kind of cigarette called that.

That's just Mezzo.

D'Mezzo is a middle of the road smooth jazz band. As with a lot of those types of bands they're actually pretty competent, just really not my thing...
