Flowers. Trees.

It took us a while to get the hang of the Botanical Garden. It was pretty crowded, and people had thrown a lot of trash around, especially in the waterways, which was sad. It's pretty, but it's a very human environment. Even on the dirt paths it's hard to get a sense of Nature.

Then we found the orchid greenhouse, which was amazing.

The flowers were beautiful, and the air smelled green and mossy and fertile. The layers of Jakarta grit began to slough off. The Carmen Miranda within began to emerge.

the orchid house sounds and looks wonderful. sorry to hear about the garbage in the gardens. i suppose it's an expected side effect from a popular urban escape.

i like the carmen miranda recreation photo. for even greater realism, simply balance your famous fruit basket on the top of your head!
